Nylon cable ties (also known as a hose tie, tie wrap, wire tie, zap-straps, or zip tie) is a type of fastener for holding items together, primarily electrical cables and wires. Because of their low cost, ease of use, and binding strength, cable ties are ubiquitous, finding use in a wide range of other applications.

The common cable tie, normally made of nylon, has a flexible tape section with teeth that engage with a pawl in the head to form a ratchet so that as the free end of the tape section is pulled the cable tie tightens and does not come undone.

For humid environments, the nylon cable ties can also maintain excellent mechanical properties. Even if the product is hygroscopic and absorbs a small amount of water, the tensile strength will only be slightly reduced, but on the other hand, the elongation and impact strength will be improved. For heavy work occasions, heavy duty nylon cable ties can be chosen.

 

 

1. Temperature: Challenges under high temperature
Temperature is an important test factor faced by nylon cable ties. High temperature will accelerate the aging process of nylon cable ties. Under high temperature environment, the molecular movement of nylon materials becomes extremely active, which is easy to cause various chemical reactions such as oxidation and degradation. Generally speaking, nylon cable ties can maintain good mechanical properties and anti-aging properties within the temperature range of -40℃ to 85℃. However, if it is in a high temperature environment for a long time, such as near high temperature equipment or in a hot outdoor environment for a long time, its service life will be greatly shortened.

2. Humidity
A humid environment is another enemy of nylon cable ties. Moisture will quietly sneak into the interior of the nylon cable ties. When the nylon cable ties absorb moisture, its physical properties will change, the originally tough tensile strength will decrease, and the elongation will increase. What's worse, moisture will combine with other factors to accelerate the aging reaction of nylon materials. Especially in a humid environment with corrosive substances such as acids and alkalis, the aging speed will accelerate dramatically.
