Different Types of Security Seals and Their Advantages

Leave a message

With today's concern of terrorism, cargo theft, and tampering, security is a top priority for the storage and transportation of important goods. Security seals are effective tools for deterring and detecting unauthorized access, theft, or tampering. But like with most things, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to security seals. There are different types of seals that perform best under certain circumstances and for different tasks.

Here are different types of security seals and their specific advantages.

1. Cable seals. Cable security seals, also known simply as 'cable seals' or wire rope seals, are flexible and strong types of security seals popular across all types of industries, including freight and transport, food and pharmaceutical, industrial and manufacturing and other sectorsCable seals generally consist of a metal or plastic body, with the cable / wire rope permanently cinched or clamped at one side of the body, and with a one-way tamper-evident locking chamber at the other end of the body. The wire rope is inserted into this locking chamber and progressively tightened to suit the application. The seal can only be opened by cutting the cable; our cable seals feature non-preformed cable which frays when cut, preventing re-insertion and providing a clear indication of seal tampering.

2. Bolt seals. Bolt seals are another high-security seal option that are designed with a complex locking mechanism yet are self-locking so do not require tools and are easy to put in place. They have a steel bolt and a tamper-evident body part that are manually attached to form a seal. They are customizable by color, print, and barcoding for additional security layers. These seals are ideal for containers, trailer door latches, and cross border shipments. These heavy duty seals require a bolt cutter to be removed.

The Metal Bolt Seal is a high security bolt seal specifically designed to safeguard high value cargo. The seal features a carbon steel body and ABS plastic coating for tamper evident visibility. To increase security, the body and bolt are laser etched with matching numbers. Our bolt seals is ISO 17712 certified for High Security and is C-TPAT compliant.

3. Fixed-length plastic seals. Fixed-length plastic seals are among the strongest type of plastic seal, with breaking strengths ranging from 80-135lbs. These seals work exceptionally well for securing cargo for truck shipments. Fixed-length seals are inexpensive, so they are a good option when cost is a concern.

4. Plastic pull-tight seals. Pull-tight seals are similar to fixed-length plastic seals, except that they come in a wider variety of breaking strengths and are adjustable to match specific needs. For example, pull-tight seals can be used for sealing hazardous waste, fire extinguishers, cash bags, vehicle doors, and more. Adjustable plastic seals are a good option when you have various needs as they are versatile.
